Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These equipment utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for surfaces that are not even. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both diagonally and vertically. This particular model has a small work platform that houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting equipment has a bucket or a small work platform which is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These equipment offer an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is very important to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
